VIA PANAM EXHIBITION PREMIERED IN CHILE
The Via PanAm exhibition had its premiere at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Santiago de Chile.
In an impressive black box, the spatial exhibition design, made by Jeroen de Vries, created an environment where images, text, video and sound integrated into an immersive experience. For more images and a video of the installation, please go here.
For Van Lohuizen it was a special moment to be able to show his work where it was made - in the country where he started his year-long road-trip exactly two years earlier.
The exhibition opened on January 29th with a discussion about migration related issues in Chile and beyond. Carolina Stefoni, sociologist at Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Santiago and specialized in the situation of female migrants in Chile, shared her insights on the topic. Van Lohuizen spoke about how he had experienced working on this project, and how it changed his view on some of the predispositions he had before starting his trip.
The discussion was moderated by photographer and photo-editor Miguel Angel Larrea.
From November 9, 2013 the exhibition will be on show at Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam. On this occasion, also the Via PanAm book will be launched. In 2014, the show will travel to other venues in Europe, South- and North America. More information can be found here.

THE BOOK IS IN THE MAKING - WATCH THE PREVIEW
The Via PanAm book is in the making!
Designed by Heijdens Karwei, Amsterdam (who also designed Kadir's successful book 'Diamond Matters'), the book takes the impressive and changing landscapes that Kadir traveled as its starting point - printed in colour and black and white on large spreads. Within these landscapes, the stories of the people pop up, on smaller pages like intimate little booklets. The stories zoom in on the lives of the people that Van Lohuizen portrayed, showing their strength and their vulnerability, as well as the variety of motivations they have to move, the roads they travel and the (often informal) infrastructures they enter into.
The book will be co-published by YdocPublishing. The launch is scheduled for Spring/Summer 2013. If you want to stay updated on the developments and/or be among the first 100 to purchase a signed and numbered copy of the book, sign in for the Ydoc newsletter
and you will receive updates about the pre-sale and other offers.

VIA PANAM: THE MAKING-OF. PRESENTATION 18 APRIL, AMSTERDAM
In Via PanAm: The Making-of the people behind the project Via PanAm share their experiences with the audience.
The past year, photojournalist Kadir van Lohuizen (NOOR) traveled 40.000 km along the Pan-American Highway, looking for stories about migration. The goal: to show migration as phenomenon common to all times and places, and to depict the diversity of people migrating. Simultaneously,Via PanAm explores new ways for photojournalists to keep their heads above water.
In the presentation, Van Lohuizen shows the stories he made along the way, and gives insights into what migration in South- and North America looks like today, what it means to be on the road by yourself for one year and publish almost daily in newspapers, on the radio, on several blogs, in magazines, on social media and an iPad application.
Producer Bas Vroege (Paradox) shares the experiences with the new platform the iPad. What have we learned from this experiment, and what insights does it give for a new image-practice and alternative business-models for photographers?
Lars Boering, director of the FotografenFederatie, moderates the discussion.
The evening is made possible by the FotografenFederatie and Pakhuis de Zwijger.
