SMALL BUT ROUGH 12866 KM / DAY 210 / OCTOBER 12, 2011 - 01:58 / SOMOTILLO, NICARAGUA
And the bus continues north... The countries aren`t as big in Central America as they were down south. The good thing about that is that travel times are shorter, but it also means I have to switch gears much faster.
I leave Nicaragua behind and move towards rough countries ahead: Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico. Countries with some of the highest murder rates in the world. Nicaragua doesn`t have the gang culture El Salvador and Honduras have - a culture which is largely an export product from the US. I will investigate this in El Salvador, but for the coming two weeks I`ll be in Honduras, which, according to local papers, took the lead as being the most murderous country in the world.
But this isn`t the story I`ll work on here. I`ll focus on something entirely different. In my research I came across the fact that Honduras has the largest community of Palestinians in the western hemisphere. Interesting! But first let's cross the Nicaraguan-Hondurian border.
