ROUTE 1 21220 KM / DAY 330 / FEBRUARY 9, 2012 - 12:30 / MORRO BAY, CA, USA
From San Diego the fast way to drive to San Francisco is Interstate 5, but too many people told me that I would be crazy not to take Route 1: the coastal road, which winds its way up along the Pacific. It takes twice as long, but everyone was right - what an incredible ride.
Just north of Morro Bay I hear through my open car windows a deafening noise. When I walk up to the remote beach I see hundreds and hundreds of elephant seals, who migrate from Alaska to this beach where the males battle and the females deliver. I am going where they came from: Alaska.
San Francisco is just as great as everyone says. What a city! It's a shame I`m only here for two days, basically to give a presentation at San Francisco Arts Institute. It's the place where quite a few legendary photographers were educated and taught, so I was honored to be there.
